What is Forging?
Forging is a process by which a metal is heated and given a desired shape by an application of an appropriate compressive force, typically applied using a power hammer or a press.
Did You Know?
- Forged steel is considerably stronger and more ductile than castings. S-N fatigue resistance of forged steel is significantly better than the cast materials. Forged steel is superior to castings with respect to low cyclic fatigue.
- Forgings need to be consistent from one piece to another, without any defects such as porosity, voids, or inclusions. This method creates components that have a high ratio of strength to weight. These components are often used in the design of aircraft frame members.
- Seamless rolled rings offer superior integrity for demanding engineering applications. Seamless rolled rings also provide a cost effective alternative to fabricating rings from plate.
